The researchers have each demonstrated significant and broad influence in their chosen field or fields of research. This is measured by the amount of times their research papers are cited or referenced by other high quality research papers, showing how they have influenced understanding in their particular area or areas.

The four individuals are:
- Jane Noyes, Professor in Health and Social Services Research and Child Health at the School of Health Sciences
- Karen Hughes, Professor of Public Health at the College of Human Sciences, who is also affiliated to Public Health Wales
- Davey Jones, Professor of Soil & Environmental Sciences & Public Health
and
- Mark A. Bellis, Professor of Public Health and Senior Research Fellow at the College of Medicine & Health, (who is also affiliated to Liverpool John Moores University).
